Special Release: Aaron Allston

Recorded 3/12/14

Aaron Allston wrote 13 books in the Star Wars Universe and passed away suddenly at the age of 53 last month. He was a good friend of Bryan’s and Bryan wanted to put together a show to honor his memory. On this episode you’ll hear from some of Aaron’s friends; namely Star Wars author Michael Stackpole, author Janine Spendlove, publisher Ron Garner, and Bryan. We hope it will make you feel a little closer to one of the most prolific authors of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. To Aaron we say, “Yub Yub, Commander.”

  1. I was a young man who bought the Cyclopedia with friends of mine, and quickly it was placed in my hands as I was the DM. I think I read that book over twenty times. Often I turned to the photo of the two men playing the game in the ‘mapping’ section, and had a feeling it was the author getting with the artist, telling him to draw the two of them seated at a couch playing the game. The cartographer in that photo looked like he was at wits end, and I felt like it was a peek into his escapism which he so enjoyed. I wish I had known about him living in the Austin area, I think I would have tried to find him to shake his hand. His work in novels and game manuals was severely influential in my life, and thus, spilled into my escapism, my friends know Aaron through his work. I hope to join the good man in the game after this, and I hope his friends and family know another fan misses him being here.
